TCMC receives $10,000 grant from Wachovia/Wells Fargo to fund scholarships

Scranton, Pennsylvania – Wachovia/Wells Fargo recently presented a $10,000 check to The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) to benefit the student scholarship fund. The TCMC scholarship fund provides monetary assistance to qualified students who have demonstrated financial need or exceptional scholastic merit.

“This grant from Wachovia/Wells Fargo enables TCMC to achieve our goal of bringing the brightest and most qualified medical students to train here in northeastern Pennsylvania,” stated President and Dean, Robert D’Alessandri, MD. “We are grateful to Wachovia/Wells Fargo for providing monetary assistance to deserving students so that they can achieve their lifelong goals of serving patients and their communities,” Dr. D’ Alessandri continued.

TCMC, one of the newest allopathic medical schools in the United States was established in response to the need for physicians and improved healthcare for the people of northeastern Pennsylvania. In 2010, TCMC welcomed its second class of sixty-five medical students and over 70% of total students enrolled are Pennsylvania residents with nearly one half from NEPA.

“Wachovia/Wells Fargo recognizes the importance of supporting educational institutions such as The Commonwealth Medical College that through their investment into the region will ultimately improve the healthcare and enrich the lives of the people who live and work in our community for many generations to come,” stated Greg Collins, senior vice president, Wachovia.
