Pennsylvania Medical Society honors TCMC deans

Scranton, Pennsylvania – On Saturday, October 24, 2020, Robert M. D’Alessandri, MD, president and founding dean, and Gerald P. Tracy, MD, associate dean of regional campus development-Scranton of TCMC were awarded the Presidential Citation Award by Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) president, James Goodyear, MD. Both recipients were acknowledged for their outstanding contribution to the concept and development of TCMC, Pennsylvania’s newest medical school in more than forty years. More than 300 physicians from across Pennsylvania along with leaders of PAMED and members of the American Medical Association gathered at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania for the annual event and award ceremony.

The prestigious Presidential Citation Award is awarded to recognize physicians for their lifelong commitment to excellence in medicine, medical education, and patient care in improving the quality of medical care to all residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Drs. D’Alessandri and Tracy were recognized for their outstanding service to medical education and the advancement of the medical sciences. Dr. D’Alessandri serves as the chief executive officer and the chief academic officer of TCMC. He is responsible for setting priorities, institutional direction and management of the College, as well as curriculum development and execution, the student experience, faculty recruitment and development and the execution of the research agenda. With more than eighteen years of experience in senior leadership positions at West Virginia University, including almost fifteen years as dean of the WVU School of Medicine, he was instrumental in expanding health professions programs at WVU and establishing programs in occupational medicine and public health. Dr. D’Alessandri is a specialist in infectious diseases and general medicine.

Dr. Tracy is one of the original visionaries behind the concept and development of TCMC, northeast Pennsylvania’s first and only medical school. He has more than twenty years experience as director of cardiovascular services at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. Dr. Tracy served in various leadership roles in the Lackawanna County Medical Society as well as various positions in the Pennsylvania Medical Society including the state board of trustees and the state American Medical Association delegation. Dr. Tracy, a retired cardiologist, is TCMC associate dean of regional campus development where he is responsible for overseeing the medical education curriculum and clinical experiences for medical students in the Scranton regional campus.

The PAMED members include 20,000 physicians, residents, fellows, medical students and practice managers working together to advance public health, public policy, medical sciences, education , and ethics for the advocacy of patients.
